2021-06-24 11:29

On 23 June 2021, a batch of COVID-19 vaccines donated by the Chinese Government arrived in Port Moresby. Chinese Ambassador H.E. Zeng Fanhua, National Planning Minister Hon. Rainbo Paita and Deputy National Pandemic Response Controller Dr Daoni Esorom were present at the airport to greet the vaccines and attend the handover ceremony.

Ambassador Zeng said that China’s vaccine aid to PNG is an active implementation of President Xi Jinping’s important announcement on making Chinese vaccines a global public product. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, China and PNG have worked together to fight the pandemic, and the friendship between the two countries has been further strengthened. The vaccines donated by China will help PNG overcome the pandemic at an early date. China will continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with PNG in areas such as fighting pandemic and public health governance, and promote the building of a global community of health.

Minister Paita, on behalf of Prime Minister James Marape and the PNG Government, thanked the Chinese Government and people for the vaccine donation to PNG. He said this once again highlights China's strong support as an important partner of PNG for PNG's efforts to combat the epidemic. The PNG side has always attached great importance to developing its relations with China and will continue to promote practical cooperation between the two countries in health and other areas. The PNG relevant authorities will work together with the Chinese side to implement the roll out of Chinese vaccines for the benefits of the PNG people.

Dr Esorom said that China-donated vaccines are a reflection of the friendship between China and PNG, and will provide effective protection for the PNG people. The National Control Centre will make efforts to roll out the vaccines in PNG as soon as possible.
