Being the largest and most populous Pacific island country and endowed with abundant natural resources, Papua New Guinea, famed as home to the birds of paradise, has enormous potential for development and is truly a land of great promise.

PNG was one of the first Pacific island countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. The traditional friendship between the two countries has withstood the test of time and is growing with new vitality. On 12 October 1976, China and PNG formally established diplomatic relations. Since then, China-PNG relations have developed rapidly and always been at the forefront of China's relations with Pacific island countries. PNG was also the first Pacific island country to sign a memorandum of understanding on Belt and Road cooperation and Belt and Road cooperation plans with China. In November 2018, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a historic state visit to PNG and the two countries established comprehensive strategic partnership featuring mutual respect and common development. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of top leadership, the comprehensive strategic partnership between our two countries has been increasingly mature and sound with strengthened mutually beneficial cooperation, which has set a fine example of solidarity, collaboration and win-win cooperation between developing countries.

The Chinese often say, "Distance cannot separate true friends who remain close even when thousands of miles apart". The Chinese Embassy in Papua New Guinea is firmly committed to cementing all-round exchanges, deepening practical cooperation, enhancing friendship between our two countries, and bringing our bilateral relationship to new heights. The Chinese Embassy will do its best to provide service and assistance to Chinese community, Chinese institutions and friends of all sectors in PNG, and serve as a bridge of friendly cooperation between China and PNG.
