On August 25, Chinese Ambassador to PNG H.E. Yang Xiaoguang attended the pre-departure reception for the 2026 Chinese Government Scholarship and Military Scholarship recipients held by the Chinese Embassy. About 60 guests, including officials from the Department of Prime Minister, Department of Higher Education and Department of Defence, scholarship recipients, representatives of alumni studying in China, and journalists attended the event.

Ambassador Yang introduced the remarkable achievements made by the Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, and reviewed the positive outcomes of the firm mutual support between China and PNG on core interests and major concerns, as well as the two countries' active efforts to advance cooperation in education and other fields. He encouraged all the students to cherish the opportunity, study hard, and enhance their capabilities, in order to contribute to PNG's development and China-PNG friendship and cooperation.

On behalf of the Minister for Higher Education, Deputy Secretary Ms. Leah Margis thanked China for its long-term support to PNG's development in the sector of education and others. She encouraged the students to appreciate the opportunity, respect Chinese culture, study hard and become civil ambassadors for PNG to China.

Representatives of the recipients and alumni also shared their feelings and expressed their gratitude to the Chinese Government.
