Comment from Chinese Embassy on PNG Government’s Decision of Closing Down the “Taipei Economic Office in Papua New Guinea”

The Chinese side appreciates and applauds the PNG government's decision of closing down the "Taipei Economic Office in Papua New Guinea". This is the latest example that the one-China principle has the overwhelming support of the international community and represents the trend of the world. China will and must achieve reunification. No one or force can hold it back.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the China-PNG diplomatic relations. During the past five decades, based on the one-China principle, China and PNG enjoyed great development of relations and deepening practical cooperation in various fields, bringing great benefit to our two countries and peoples. It is a right decision to close the "Taipei Economic Office in Papua New Guinea", which will further consolidate the political foundation for the development of China-PNG bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields. China stands ready to continue to work with PNG to firmly support each other on issues concerning our respective core interests, and promote progress of China-PNG comprehensive strategic partnership together.
