On July 17, Chinese Ambassador to PNG H.E. Yang Xiaoguang gave an interview to PNG mainstream media EMTV regarding the PNG government's decision to close down the “Taipei Economic Office in Papua New Guinea”.

Ambassador Yang said that the Chinese side highly appreciates and applauds the PNG government's right decision to close down the “Taipei Economic Office in Papua New Guinea”. It demonstrates once again that upholding the one-China principle is where international public opinion trends and the arc of history bends. There is but one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. Any form of “Taiwan independence” separatist activities will invariably fail. All efforts made by the Chinese Government to realize reunification is widely supported.

Ambassador Yang said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and PNG. China stands ready to continue working together with PNG to support each other on issues concerning respective core interests and major concerns, deepen political mutual trust, strengthen practical cooperation, and jointly advance China-PNG comprehensive strategic partnership to the greater benefit of both countries and peoples.
